Understanding the Importance of Darts in Sewing

Back waist darts in pants and skirts slopers are not optional. It’s important to add one dart in the back because it makes it much easier to manipulate the pattern.

We always need to have that back dart or yoke in order to prevent the back waist from gaping. By having the dart or yoke, we get a very nice fit in the back and it allows the wearer to sit and move comfortably. Without a dart or yoke, we’ll never achieve the right fit.

Another thing to look out for is to have a correct manipulation of darts. This means slashing and closing them, as well as making them deep enough for your pattern. Doing this will prevent a gaping waistline.
